A Chiasm (><) is a Greek literary style of
communicating a specific point using a similar choice of words. Like an X
is big on both sides and comes to a singular point in the middle, so a
chiasm phrases statements in such a way to illustrate a big idea. Here
in 1 John 5 the apostle shows that the Gospel frames all obedience to
God in His commands, and that inside the context of the Gospel is how we
can truly love people. All of this is accomplished by faith.
